Mumbai: December is that time of the year when college festivals are the flavour of the season. But it’s not just about competition, culture and razzmatazz, for now, towering budgets also factor in the size of the events planned.

And given that premise, IIT Bombay’s annual inter-college fest Mood Indigo, that will run from December 26 to 29, could very well beat the rest.

Says Apeksha Khandelwal, who has been helping organise Mood Indigo, “There are lot’s of fresh activities that we have planned this year, including a hot-air balloon that students can take a free ride on.

With only the cash sponsorships touching a whopping one crore rupees this year, the festival promises to be hugely different. In addition to that, there will also be sponsorships in kind, which will includie laptops, bikes and gift vouchers, that will collectively come to the tune of another half crore.

Mood Indigo’s Student Marketing In-charge, Abhishek Mittal says, “The sponsorships this year have touched 1 crore rupees. Besides, we are the only college fest that pays almost 12.5 per cent of our earnings as tax.”

Another organizer, Nipun Katiyal adds, “Our cash prizes are also big. Besides, there is also the pro-nites performance,” referring to the crowd-puller which will feature a performance by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

Probably the one big reason why this festival draws everyone from telecom and media companies to software to computer hardware companies, and for the first time, even a Venture Capitalist.

Mood Indigo’s Media Marketing Co-ordinator, Varun Jhawar says, “See, it makes sense for companies, too. Look at the quality of people we draw.”

Mood Indigo is already sending excitement levels sky-rocket. Some of the things the students are looking forward are the food, the fun and excitement, the American parliamentary style debate and, of course, the pro-nites.
